VCC Preschool and Pre-K Uses The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool:
The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning. Comprising of The Foundation, six knowledge-building volumes that help teachers set up a high-quality learning environment and build a thorough understanding of best practices, so they’re ready to support every child, every day.
Daily Resources, which offer step-by-step guidance in the form of Teaching Guides and additional daily teaching tools that help teachers plan and manage their days so they’re always supporting children’s learning and development and promoting positive outcomes. The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is fully aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework and state early learning standards.
Using exploration and discovery as a way of learning, The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool enables children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills.
The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is based on 38 objectives for development and learning, which now show the seamless progression of learning and development across the whole of the early childhood years, in every area that’s critical to children’s future success.
The Objectives for Development & Learning has newly expanded progressions for first, second, and third grade, enabling teachers to see children’s development and learning along a progression across the whole of the early childhood years.
The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool: The Foundation is the “what” and “why” of high-quality early childhood education, helping teachers build a comprehensive understanding of best classroom practices. The Foundation includes six volumes including:
Volume 1: The Foundation presents all the information teachers need to set up their programs. It summarizes the research foundation for the curriculum and addresses the five key areas of the curriculum: how children develop and learn, the learning environment, what children learn, caring and teaching, and partnering with families.
Volume 2: Interest Areas discusses the 10 classroom interest areas and the outdoors, suggesting appropriate materials and presenting teachers with ways to promote children’s development and learning.
Volume 3: Literacy gives teachers the latest research-based strategies for supporting early literacy learning, helping them to teach intentionally and incorporate language and literacy learning into everyday classroom experiences.
Volume 4: Mathematics explains the components and process skills of mathematics and provides teachers with practical strategies for promoting mathematics learning throughout the day.
Volume 5: Science and Technology, Social Studies & the Arts offers support that helps teachers encourage children to make and test hypotheses, develop skills for using technology, explore their world and the people in it, and engage their creative thinking skills.
Volume 6: Objectives for Development & Learning, Birth Through Third Grade now show the seamless progression of learning and development across the whole of the early childhood years, in every area that’s critical to children’s future success.
